The present study explores and describes the use of Interactive Theatre as a potential tool to increase understanding of gout in Singapore. Singaporean Students’ Desire for Part-time Job and Materialism: Gender as a Moderator
In the present study, relationship between Singaporean full-time students’ desire to take up a part-time job and their endorsement of materialistic values moderated by gender is examined. Study comprised of a convenient sample including 50 full-time students from either a local secondary school, Junior College, Polytechnic, or Institute of Technical Education. Instruments used in the present study includes youths’ desire for part-time scale and youths’ materialism rating scale (Goldberg, Gorn, Peracchio, & Bamossy, 2003). Result showed that full-time students who have higher desire for taking-up a part-time job are more likely to endorse materialistic values and gender was found to be a significant moderator between the two variables; the relationship between the two said factors is stronger for males than for females. This paper offers parents, educators, and youth workers insights into when they should be more aware of their youths’ excessive desire for taking-up part-time job and its implications.
Moral Development and Issues Related to Moral Development for Children in the Age Range of 13 to 16 Years Old
Adolescence is a period of rapid growth regarded by many as an immensely stressful one (Spear, 2000) due to a wide array of physical, emotional and cognitive transitions experienced concomitantly (Blakemore, 2008; Casey, Jones, & Hare, 2008). The development of morality during the said period is a ginormous concern of many parents and educators worldwide due to their high impressionability and receptiveness during those pivotal years (Lohmann, 2014; Nuwer, 2012). Through understanding Kohlberg’s (1969, 1975, 1981) theory of moral development, this paper explores various morality related issues possibility encountered by adolescents of 13 to 16 years of age. Possible ways of intervention are also discussed to facilitate the process of moral reasoning development of adolescents of the said age group.
